Welcome
Munich is considered to be one of the cultural centres of Germany, and it's status as the capital of Bavaria and the main city in the south of the country do little to detract from this claim. Renowned for it's beer festival Oktoberfest, it's huge collection of museums (including the Deutsches Museum, the National Bavarian Museum, the BMW Museum and the Jewish Museum) and it's delightful castle (Residenz), Munich is also in an ideal location for visiting the surrounding areas. Suggested day-trips include a visit to the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial, the Andechs Monastery, the town of Füssen, or to Starnberg lake.
Munich International Airport (Franz Josef Strauss International Airport / Flughafen München Franz Josef Strauß) is one of the busiest in Germany and is due to have a third runway constructed in the near future. The airport has two terminals, each with a number of halls. British Airways and Easy Jet operate out of Terminal 1, whilst Terminal 2 is mainly taken up by Lufthansa for which the airport is it's base. For car rentals from Munich International it is important to note that there is a central pick-up area nestled between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, and it is also here that you must return the car to on departure. Car rental companies that operate from the airport include Avis, Sixt, National/Alamo, Hertz, Budget and Europcar. The airport is situated approximately ten kilometres north east of Munich itself, but the city can easily be reached by taking the E53(92) south.
